'Tenet' To Receive International Release First, Limited US Rollout From Labor Day

The several months of back and forth on whether or not “Tenet” is going to get a cinema release looks as though it will continue for a time yet, as Warner Bros. have now announced that they will open Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited sci-fi thriller in over 70 countries worldwide, starting from Wednesday, August 26. The plan includes “Tenet” opening in Canada on Thursday Aug. 27 before the U.S. release which will be in select cities on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

It’s still unclear as to which U.S. cities will be part of the rollout, the only thing announced so far is that it will happen in the cities that have been deemed to have reopened safely. While the Regal and Cinemark chains have yet to detail their reopening plans, AMC had recently announced a mid-to-late August reopening in response to last week’s removal of “Tenet” from Warner Bros. 2020 slate. It’s been something of a back-and-forth in the past week however, with tentative whispers of Warner Bros. seeking out a potential international-first release, only put off by the potential for “spoilers.”
