The Terror Is Back On Tape In New Trailer For 'Rings'

Over a decade has passed since “The Ring Two,” which is an eternity in brand/IP time, so Paramount Pictures is hoping to revive their horror property with “Rings.” Whether or not a horror movie based around a videotape will resonate in the era of streaming remains to be seen, but perhaps a new generation will find something quaint in the notion.

Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio star in the  F. Javier Gutiérrez (“Before The Fall“) -directed effort about a young woman who is pulled into the whole don’t-watch-the-videotape-because-it’ll-kill-you thing when her boyfriend becomes obsessed with the urban myth. Here’s the official synopsis:

A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

“Rings” opens on February 3, 2017.
