Tessa Thompson Says 'Westworld' Season 3 Feels Like "The Show Is Starting All Over Again"

It’s been almost two years since fans of “Westworld” have seen a new episode of the incredibly popular HBO series. And let’s just say Season 2 didn’t really leave such a great taste in many of their mouths, as the series was criticized heavily for the writing and storyline of the most recent batch of episodes. But if you’re hoping that Season 3 is going to be different, you’re in luck, according to one of the show’s stars, Tessa Thompson.

While speaking to Variety, Thompson explained that the premiere of Season 3 doesn’t feel like the premiere of a new season. In fact, she says Season 3 of the series feels like a whole new show, entirely.

“In a weird way, it feels like this is the premiere of the show again because we have entered the real world and the show continues to ask the question what it means to be human, but it’s asking a host – pun intended – of new questions,” the actress said. “We have lots of people that have come to join our cast, fresh blood, so it feels like the show is starting all over again. It’s a show that surprises not just the audience, but surprised the people that are lucky enough to work on it.”

While her description of the new season of “Westworld” doesn’t do much to tease the storyline that fans will find in the new episodes, Jonathan Nolan, one of the creators and showrunners, explains the thematic elements that Season 3 is attempting to tackle.

“The show took a fairly dim view of humanity through the first two seasons,” said Nolan. “Now we get to ask the question is humanity embodied by what we’ve seen of it in the park. If Dolores, Maeve and the rest of the hosts have only been exposed to the kinds of people who would go to Westworld, is that really all that humanity is made of?”

We’ll see what “Westworld” does to answer that question when the HBO series returns to TV screens on March 15.
