SS Rajamouli’s mythic universe returns — this time in animation. The first teaser for “The Eternal War” extends the world of “Baahubali” into cosmic terrain, transforming the filmmaker’s signature spectacle into a full-blown animated odyssey. Produced by Rajamouli, the project is directed by Ishan Shukla, known for his work on “Star Wars: Visions,” and written by Scott Mosier, a longtime collaborator of Kevin Smith who co-directed “The Grinch” for Illumination.

A spin-off of the two original live-action “Baahubali” films — which Rajamouli re-edited into the single theatrical cut Baahubali: The Epic — the new feature unfolds as the first part of a planned two-film story, set to arrive in 2027. “The Eternal War” picks up where “Baahubali: The Beginning” left off, following the slain prince Amarendra Baahubali, voiced once again by Prabhas, as he awakens in the afterlife amid a celestial conflict between devas and asuras.
The animation embraces luminous 3D textures and operatic world-building, merging mythic fantasy and emotional gravity with the grand, kinetic action that defined Rajamouli’s blockbusters. Ramya Krishna also returns as Sivagami, adding continuity between the live-action and animated realms.
“When Ishan brought us the idea of expanding the Baahubali universe into a stylized animated epic, it clicked instantly,” Rajamouli said in a statement. “It feels like a seamless, organic extension of the world we built, one that will thrill longtime fans and invite new audiences in. I am excited to bring these two films to the big screen.”
If the teaser is any indication, “The Eternal War” carries Rajamouli’s maximalist spirit into a new medium — myth, motion, and resurrection on a cosmic scale.
