‘Song Sung Blue’ Trailer: Hugh Jackman & Kate Hudson Lead Craig Brewer’s Joyous Neil Diamond Tribute Band Pic Arriving This Christmas

This holiday season, audiences will get to see Hugh Jackman (“The Greatest Showman”) return to his song-and-dance glory in Craig Brewer‘s “Song Sung Blue,” co-starring with Kate Hudson (“Almost Famous,” “Running Point”), which explores the true-life story of musicians who put together a Neil Diamond tribute band.

Others that will appear in “Song Sung Blue” include Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, Hudson Hensley, Fisher Stevens, and Jim Belushi.

Diamond’s music has long found a following among a spectrum of people, not just specific to die-hards of happy pop music. “Sweet Caroline” may be considered his most iconic tune in a career of earworm hits, as throughout the decades it has become both a fun anthem at sporting events, cheerfully sung by fans attending games, and a staple of karaoke bars across the globe.

Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Jackman and Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.

Over the years, Brewer’s film credits include his breakout rap dramedy “Hustle & Flow,” “Black Snake Moan,” a remake of “Footloose,” the Eddie Murphy-led Netflix comedic biopic “Dolemite Is My Name” (focusing on exploitation legend and comedian Rudy Ray Moore), and the two reunited for “Coming 2 America” at Prime Video. A throughline from most of those efforts is Brewer’s passion for music, which feels like a key element of his work, and could explain why “Song Sung Blue” feels very much part of the filmmaker’s wheelhouse.

John Davis, John Fox, and Brewer (who is both writing and directing the pic) are the film’s main producers, with Erika Hampson and Greg Kohs set as executive producers.
