Got a Tip?

‘Transformers’ Writer Ehren Kruger To Pen Matterhorn-Based Pic For Disney

nullGiven the monstrous success of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, it's no surprise that Disney has been ramping up development on other movies based on rides. You asked for this people. Last summer, they added a movie inspired by the Matternhorn to the pile that also includes a potential Tom Hanks and Tim Allen re-team for "Jungle Cruise," Guillermo del Toro's "The Haunted Mansion," Jon Favreau and Michael Chabon's "Magic Kingdom" and even something about The Enchanted Tiki Room. Anyway, it looks like the studio continues to climb up the mountain.

They've hired Ehren Kruger, the guy behind the throroughly empty "Transformers" trilogy, to take his blockbuster pen to the project. Formerly known under the working title "The Hill," the movie will apparently expand the scope of the ride (lord, we hope so considering it's essentially a roller coaster), and be some kind of grand adventure pic centered around a bunch of generic character types: an action sports enthusiast, travel guide, cartographer, archaeologist and escape artist. They will face Yetis. We wonder if their skills will come in handy at various points during the movie? Guess we'll eventually find out, but we're mostly curious how all these guys met. Where does one meet an escape artist?

Commercial director Brian Beletic will take on the movie that seems to be making no secret of its multiplex aspirations. So yeah, don't expect anything too brainy here, but lots of big set pieces probably suited for 3D. [Heat Vision]
