While Deadline and Variety scrap it out over bragging rights on the story of honcho Jeff Robinov leaving or not leaving Warner Bros. , a little nugget of trivia has leaked out that may pique the interest of Christopher Nolan fans. Granted, it’s not the juiciest piece of news you’ll hear all day, but it’s interesting to consider nonetheless.
Anyway, Nikki Finke is firmly on Team Robinov, and with the news of his apparent departure from WB (or not), she reached out to some folks like Ben Affleck and Baz Luhrmann, both of whom credit him for siding with artistry over industry, to share their experiences working with him. One of the folks Robinov brought into the WB fold to great success was Christopher Nolan, contacting the filmmaker after seeing “Memento” in 2001. And while Nolan would make his mark on the studio with “Batman Begins,” launching a massively successful franchise, it turns out that before it was made he was offered the historical epic “Troy.” He turned it down, as he “wasn’t feeling it” and Wolfgang Petersen made it instead and well…we know how that turned out….
So, there you go — in an alternate universe, there’s a version of “Troy” directed by Nolan, and we have to say, the filmmaker making a sword-and-sandals movie isn’t exactly something we see him doing, so perhaps it was all for the best. Anyway, he’s now mounting his sci-fi “Interstellar” and he continues to show his loyalty to the man and studio who helped break his career out in a massive way — it was at Nolan’s behest that Paramount team up with Warner Bros. to produce the movie. Aww.
