'Umbrella Academy' Trailer: Ellen Page & Mary J Blige Star In A Comic Book By The Guy From My Chemical Romance

Netflix has released brand new images from their upcoming series “The Umbrella Academy,” which features big Hollywood names such as Ellen Page, Mary J Blige, Robert Sheehan and more. The ten-part series is inspired by the top-rated, Eisner Award-winning comic books and graphic novels, created by Gerard Way, yep, Gerard Way — the emo-rocker and My Chemical Romance frontman, who turned into a comic book creator several years back.

An official synopsis for the show reads:

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured, and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya, and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

Producer and writer Steve Blackman has previously worked on “Fargo” and “Altered Carbon,” and is sure to bring another addictive addition to Netflix’s ever-growing empire. The show, which first aired at the New York Comic Con, also features Tom Hopper, star of “Game of Thrones,” and Kate Walsh, known for her roles in “Greys Anatomy” and “Private Practice.” Way has also been heavily involved in the production of the series, working in partnership with Universal Cable Productions for Netflix, as has the illustrator of the original graphic novel series, Gabriel Ba. The series will be released via Netflix on February 15, 2019.
