It really wasn’t a matter of if, but when. Late last year, it was revealed that Universal was already planning on a “Pitch Perfect” sequel, with Rebel Wilson among those eyed to return (because, duh) and it’s really quite simple why they want a follow-up: the first movie was a smash hit. Not only did the movie earn over a $110 million worldwide (not bad for a movie about a cappela singing groups featuring no A-list stars) the soundtrack is still topping the Billboard charts, placing for 28 weeks and counting.
So again, not a big shock that Universal announced today at CinemaCon that they are planning for “Pitch Perfect 2” to land in theaters sometime in 2015. That’s still quite a bit of a way off, but certainly by then the profiles of both Wilson and Anna Kendrick (who we can only assume will return as well) will have become even more prominent. And speaking of Kendrick, she also just dropped a full blown music video for “Cups,” one of the most talked about songs the movie. And again, it speaks to the legs the movie is having that it can arrive five months after the movie did, and still generate a lot of attention.
So get ready, the kids of Barden University (though they’ll be graduated by then?) still have a lot more to do. But until then, check out the cast opening the MTV Movie Awards this past weekend below. [Slashfilm]
