Miranda July Teaming With Annapurna & Plan B For New Film

Ever since “Me and You and Everyone We Know” hit the scene in 2005, winning the Camera d’Or at Cannes and a Special Jury Prize at Sundance, writer/director/actress Miranda July has been a filmmaker to watch out for. Six years after that film was released, July came back with the film “The Future,” but since then, the filmmaker has been fairly quiet. But that’s about the change.

Annapurna and Plan B have just announced that they will produce the upcoming untitled film from July. While the film doesn’t have a title, we do know a little about the premise. The film follows the story of Old Dolio and how her world is turned upside down when her criminal parents invite an outsider to join their biggest heist yet. Youree Henley will also be on board as producer. The untitled film marks the first time that July has worked with Plan B and Annapurna.

This new film will also be the first time that Miranda July won’t star in her own film. Previously, the filmmaker took on the lead actress role in both films, but for this new project, she will just stick to writing and directing.

In addition to being an award-winning filmmaker, July is also known for her other artistic endeavors. She’s an accomplished writer, with over a dozen short stories appearing in publications like Harper’s Magazine and The New Yorker. July is also a singer, with multiple albums under her belt. And as if that wasn’t enough, she had various other performance art exhibits over the years.

Annapurna has produced critically acclaimed films like Academy Award nominees “Her,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “American Hustle.” Plan B is responsible for such films as “The Lost City of Z” and “Okja.” With credits like this, July has picked great partners for her upcoming film.

No release date is set for the, as yet untitled, film from July.
