It seems like we haven’t been discussing Toni Collette enough lately, and we’re fixing that right now. The actress who provided yet another astonishing, complicated portrayal of a grieving mother in Ari Aster‘s debut film “Hereditary” will return to the screen in the Netflix original series, “Wanderlust.”
The streaming giant officially announced a release date for the dramedy series for October and since then, fans were waiting for the first footage of Collette and company in action. The series is co-commissioned by BBC One and features a few names that may not be immediately familiar to American audiences. With Collette the draw for many fans, the series also stars, Steven Mackintosh (“A Song For Jenny,” “The Halcyon“), Zawe Ashton (“Fresh Meat,” “Not Safe For Work“) and Royce Pierreson (“Line Of Duty,” “Our Girl“).
With an ensemble cast, the series will focus on the interpersonal relationships in the life of Joy Richards (Collette) and her husband following a cycling accident. Collette, having an extensive filmography that bounces between genres, is set to play Joy. The series is written by playwright Nick Payne, whose screen credits include a few episodes of “The Crown” and the film adaptation of “The Sense Of An Ending.” “Wanderlust” will bring together drama and comedy in a subtle fashion, while examining relationships and what happens when we try to spice things up.
“Wanderlust” begins streaming on Netflix October 19.

The six-episode series looks at how we build and maintain happy relationships and asks whether lifelong monogamy is possible – or even desirable. Collette plays Joy Richards, a therapist trying to find a way to keep her spark alive with her husband after a cycling accident causes them to reassess their relationship. As we meet her family, friends, neighbors and clients, remarkable yet relatable stories of love, lust and forbidden desire emerge.
