Watch: ‘Eyes Of Wakanda’ Sneak Peek Of New ‘Black Panther’ Connected Animated Series Hitting Disney+ On August 27

Suddenly announced back in 2023 by Marvel Studios, before that, there were rumblings of a live-action Wakanda series in the works, but we ultimately got the animated project “Eyes Of Wakanda” instead.  Today, Marvel Studios and Marvel Animation peeled back some of the layers, revealing that “Eyes Of Wakanda” would premiere on August 27 and dropped a new sneak peek at the MCU show.

Created and directed by Todd Harris, “Eyes of Wakanda” is primarily set in the past of the current MCU narrative and tells stories of Wakandan heroes who were tasked with scouring the globe to retrieve stolen vibranium artifacts.

With an impressive group of actors lending their voices, such as Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose.

Harris was a storyboard artist on “Black Panther,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Hawkeye,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

In 2024, Marvel exec Brad Winderbaum revealed that the events depicted in the series would be part of the main continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Winderbaum also revealed that Harris had directed all of the series’ episodes.

Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel:

Marvel Animation’s new action-adventure series ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze, and this is their story.

Initially, it was thought that some of the live-action Wakanda series that Ryan Coogler was producing and overseeing had morphed into the animated series, but Variety revealed earlier this year that those are separate and still ostensibly in development. So we could still get that Okoye live-action series (presumed to be a “Midnight Angels” show) and potentially another Wakanda series, but time will tell if they still exist, given Marvel is scaling back live-action shows for Disney+.

In the interim, while we wait on news about “Black Panther 3,” the Wakandan fix will be filled by “Eyes Of Wakanda,” which premieres August 17 with a 4-episode premiere on Disney+. Audiences can watch the new footage and sneak peek below.
