Watch: First Trailer For Jim Jarmusch's Gorgeous Vampire Movie 'Only Lovers Left Alive'

Only Lovers Left Alive

From Cannes to Toronto to New York to London, as Jim Jarmusch‘s elegant and beautiful “Only Lovers Left Alive” has cruised the festival circuit, it has won over the hearts of various Playlist members at each stop along the way. It’s easily his best film since “Dead Man” (though I’m one of the few who adores “The Limits Of Control“) and will undoubtedly rank among his finest accomplishments. And while it’s a hard movie to cut down to trailer form, this new international spot does a pretty nice job.

Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton lead the movie as Adam and Eve, two centuries-old vampire lovers living on different continents who reunite to spend time together. But their momentary bliss is interrupted by the arrival of Eve’s sister Ava (Mia Wasikowska), and that’s about as much “plot” as there is. The genre setting is really just a device for Jarmusch to talk about music, culture, history and more, all with his usual deadpan wit and a sly self-awareness too, that’s all wrapped up in one pretty intoxicating package. It’s an intelligent, deeply satisfying film that should be high on your Must See 2014 list.

No release date from Sony Pictures Classics for this one yet, but you can cop the excellent soundtrack in January (check out the highlights from Jarmusch’s NYFF talk right here). Watch below.
