Well played, Screen Junkies. With "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" gearing up to hit multiplexes this weekend, the site has decided to double up on its weekly Honest Trailers release, unveiling takes on 1989’s "Batman" and 1978’s "Superman," and it’s fun stuff.

Starting off with Tim Burton‘s take on Bruce Wayne’s war on crime, Screen Junkies points out that the Michael Keaton starring movie ticked off all the boxes of "angry internet nerd bingo," before there was an internet to speak of. The filmmakers changed the costume, made a controversial choice in casting the lead, and Batman had no bones about killing people (so everybody should chill on the Dark Knight wielding a gun in Zack Snyder‘s movie). And they even argue that perhaps Jack Nicholson‘s Joker wasn’t so great, and owed more to Cesar Romero than we care to remember.
Meanwhile, Richard Donner‘s fun, optimistic, bright, and camp take on the Last Son of Krypton has not aged well, though it set up the template for the tropes of comic book movies that follow for the next few decades, including working in origin stories, cramming in lingo from the comics, and more.
