Watch: The Fear Is Spreading In The First Teaser Trailer For ‘Sinister 2’

Sinister 2The fear is spreading. Or something like that. WonderCon took place this weekend, and while it was rather sleepy big news and reveal-wise, the studios did show off some of their mid-sized pictures. The first was “Sinister 2,” the sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie from Blumhouse Productions and Focus Features. None of the major principals are back for the sequel, including director Scott Derrickson, who moved on to Marvel’s “Dr. Strange” (though he co-wrote the script and is acting as a producer).

Given that it’s a supernatural horror, apparently Blumhouse wants to connect the “Sinister” universe to their “Insidious” world. How that happens remains to be seen, but perhaps in some films down the road. Here’s the official synopsis:

The sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie. In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Buhguul continues to spread with frightening intensity.

Starring Shannyn Sossamon, James Ransone, and Robert and Dartanian Sloan, "Sinister 2" is directed by Ciaran Foy, who earned strong buzz in 2012 for his film “Citadel.” The sequel opens nationwide on August 21st. Watch the first teaser below.
