Wes Anderson's Next Film Will Be Set In Post-WWII France

Wes Anderson films are truly a genre all their own. His filmography is full of wildly eclectic, and yes, whimsical films that range from stop-motion animated films like “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Isle of Dogs” to eccentric family dramas like “The Royal Tenenbaums.” While they all share a similar style and tone, Anderson’s films are definitely very different. And it looks like his next film is going to fit that mold, as well.

According to the French publication Sud Ouest, the filmmaker is going to France to shoot his next project, and surprisingly, it’ll be in front of cameras sooner than you might have expected. The premise and title of the film are kept under wraps but the report says that the film will shoot in Angoulême beginning in February 2019 and will take place right after World War II. It should be no surprise that Anderson is finally setting one of his films in France. The American filmmaker has lived in France for a while now, and often talks of his love of the European country.

It’ll be interesting to learn more about this upcoming project and see where it fits in his filmography. Will he be going in a different direction, perhaps tackling more serious issues in a dramatic way? Or will his upcoming post-WWII film follow the style, tone, and general aesthetic he was Oscar-nominated for in his most recent live-action film, “The Grand Budapest Hotel?” Who are we kidding? Clearly, whatever the film is called, it will probably fit nicely in the Wes Anderson Film genre.
