Wes Anderson's 'Moonrise Kingdom' Leads Criterion July Releases

nullSummer is coming, and of all of Wes Anderson‘s films, there is perhaps one no better suited to the sense of adventure the season brings with it than "Moonrise Kingdom." And it’s the leadoff film for another great slate of titles from The Criterion Collection, who have revealed their lineup for July.

Yes, you probably already own the film, but as always, Criterion is upping the ante. Their package contains more extras, most notably, an audio commentary with Wes Anderson. Plus there will be a "restored" 2K digital transfer (weird, considering the movie was released three years ago), audition footage, storyboards, home movies, and a lot more.

Keeping in line with movies that are acceptable for family viewing is Carroll Ballard‘s "Black Stallion." The movie will most notably be coming with five short films by Ballard, an interview with DP Caleb Deschanel (who also supervised the new 4K transfer) and lots more.

For those looking for a classic film fix, Jan Troell‘s "Here Is Your Life" will do the trick. The nearly three hour film will be introduced by Mike Leigh and feature a small, but solid, amount of extras.

A more recent classic worth checking out is Stephen Frears‘ "My Beautiful Laundrette," which has been given a polish. It, too, comes with minimal extras, but Daniel Day-Lewis‘ breakout should be enough.

Lastly, "Hiroshima Mon Amour" and "The Killers" are getting Blu-ray upgrades for all your high-def needs.
