Will Poulter Joins Amazon's 'Lord Of The Rings' Series In A Lead Role

Slowly, but surely, the new “Lord of the Rings” TV series is beginning to come together. With its massive budget and reported $1 billion price tag, Amazon has put a lot of pressure on itself to score big with the Tolkien adaptation. And for the young actor, Will Poulter, it would appear that a large amount of that pressure is going to fall on his shoulders.

According to Variety, Poulter has been cast in one of the lead roles in the upcoming “Lord of the Rings” TV series from writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay. No word on what his role might be, which is pretty much expected at this point, considering the studio has been incredibly tight-lipped about specifics of any kind. What we do know is that the series is said to take place well before the events of “The Fellowship of the Ring,” in what is referred to as The Second Age. This is the time when the evil Sauron began his quest to rule Middle-earth and capture the Rings of Power.

Poulter is probably best known as a scene-stealer in films like “We’re the Millers” and most recently, “Midsommar.” He’s also shown up in the recent “Black Mirror” interactive film, “Bandersnatch,” as well as “The Revenant” and the popular “Maze Runner” franchise. The only other actor to have been announced, so far, for “Lord of the Rings” is the relative unknown, Markella Kavenagh.

Joining Payne and McKay as creative minds on the highly-anticipated series are Bryan Cogman, of “Game of Thrones” fame, who is along as a consulting producer, and J.A. Bayona, who will direct a few of the episodes.

There’s no official release date set for Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings.”
