Woody Allen's 'Wonder Wheel' Trailer

If it feels odd that summer is coming to a close and you haven’t seen the requisite Woody Allen film that typically graces us in this warmest season, don’t worry, you haven’t missed it. No, this year Allen is forgoing his customary release window and opting, instead, for an awards season debut for his new film, “Wonder Wheel.” Somebody certainly has his eyes on the prize.

The upcoming feature, which Allen writes and directs (as per usual), will be distributed by the ever-ubiquitous Amazon. The movie’s title is a reference to the unique Ferris wheel at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in Coney Island, which makes sense because that’s precisely where the movie is set.

“Wonder Wheel” takes place in the 1950s, features larger-than-life characters, lovers, infidelity, and gangsters. Essentially, all the ingredients are here for something memorable: Here’s the synopsis:

We’re in Coney Island in the 1950s. A lifeguard (Justin Timberlake) tells us a story that just might be filtered through his vivid imagination: a middle-aged carousel operator (James Belushi) and his beleaguered wife (Kate Winslet), who eke out a living on the boardwalk, are visited by his estranged daughter (Juno Temple)—a situation from which layer upon layer of all-too-human complications develop.

“Wonder Wheel” will be the closing night film at the New York Film Festival on October 15th, but the rest of us will have to wait until December 1st for the theatrical release.
