Woody Harrelson's Killer Role In "Venom" Revealed

If you found out there’s a film coming that stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson, you’d think this was going to be an Oscar-caliber film, right? Well, the trio are definitely teaming up, but it’s not the type of film you’re thinking about. They’re teaming up for the upcoming superhero film, “Venom.” While we knew the roles that Hardy and Williams signed for, Harrelson’s role has been a bit of a mystery. Until now.

According to Bleeding Cool, Woody Harrelson will appear in “Venom” in the role of villain Carnage. As the name implies, Carnage isn’t the greatest person ever. Carange, aka Cletus Kasady, is what you would definitely call a serial killer. In Marvel lore, Kasady grew up with a penchant for murdering small animals and was guilty of pushing his grandmother down a flight of stairs, killing her.

In adulthood, Casady would be thrown in jail for murdering a dozen or so people, and eventually would then go on to become bonded with an alien symbiote (similar to the one that turns Tom Hardy into Venom) but doesn’t become an anti-hero. Instead, Carnage just wants to murder everything.

We still don’t know much about the plot of “Venom.” Even with a teaser trailer, there’s not a whole lot of information about the movie, other than the cast and Tom Hardy’s odd accent. However, with Harrelson on board as Carnage, it’s clear that the main story will revolve around the alien symbiotes and how they came to be.

This is important for another reason, also. In the comics, Spider-Man plays a vital role in bringing the alien symbiotes back to Earth, and since Spidey won’t be showing up in “Venom,” they’re going to have to figure out a new origin for the characters.

“Venom” is scheduled to hit theaters October 5.
