Word On The Street: Tarantino Set For 'Weekend' In Serbia? Doubt It

Mark this down as literal word on the street. According to Variety, rumor has it that Quentin Tarantino is set to make a film called “Weekend” starring Sharon Stone, Jessica Biel, Lucy Liu, Dennis Hopper and Michael Madsen.

The project will apparently film in Serbia and, subsequently, has only been making news in the Central regions of Europe. This is a joke right? Most likely, and we’d love to brush it off with a joke. However, as much as we’d hate to provide this story with any remnant of possible validity, it must be noted that Tarantino has previously spoken of his desire to make an erotic film inspired by 1970’s European soft-core sex films.

“If I actually do an erotic movie, I’m going to have to reveal what I find sexy, what turns me on,” the director once contemplated. “And when it comes to sex in movies, it’s got to be kind of kinky, because that’s what’s cinematic, that’s what’s fun.”

Another possibility is that of a film inspired by Jean-Luc Godard’s “Le weekend.” We know Tarantino is a fan of the French New Wave pioneer, after all, his production company is named after Godard’s “Band Of Outsiders.” Godard’s ‘Weekend’ is a black comedy road trip tale full of lies, deceit, infidelity, murder and revolution intertwined with vignettes of a collapsing bourgeois society.

That’s all just fun speculation on our behalf but, and the last thing we want to do is condone any piece of news reporting that begins with “I heard from a source in Spain, who is a great admirer of Sharon Stone.” The Quentin Tarantino Archives thinks the movie is being produced by A Band

Apart, which has somehow been confused as a “Quentin Tarantino production.” This would make more sense to us. Expect the real story to come out tomorrow at the “Inglourious Basterds” press conference in Cannes and don’t be surprised if its debunked.
