Robert Zemeckis Says His Remake Of Acclaimed Documentary ‘Marwencol’ With Steve Carell Will Be "Action Packed"

For a few years now, Robert Zemeckis has quietly been developing a remake of the acclaimed documentary “Marwencol.” Released in 2010, it tells the story of of Mark Hogancamp, a man who worked through a significant loss of memory following a brutal assault by making tiny replicas of himself, his friends, his family and his attackers and placing them in a 1/6 scale World War II setting. In doing so, he captured the attention of the New York art scene. It’s a fascinating story, and one would assume that a narrative retelling would focus on the emotional stakes of Hogancamp’s project. But Zemeckis is a big believer in spectacle, and accordingly, he’s bringing that to his version.

Zemeckis’ film will be titled “The Women Of Marwen,” and he recently shared with Cinema Blend that the project, which has Steve Carell attached to star, is still in the works, and that he’s adjusted the material a little bit for the requirements of the multiplex.

“I wrote it, and it’s a much more… a movie. It takes the essence of it and then just blows it out. It’s action packed!” he said.

So maybe the World War II miniatures will be brought to life somehow? Fresh off the upcoming “Allied” starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard,  maybe Zemeckis still has a hankering to depict some wartime action.
