Russell Crowe Says There Were "A Number Of Superman Movies" Planned After 'Man Of Steel'

With Warner Bros. deciding to jump to “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” after “Man Of Steel,” and (rushing) into launching a cinematic universe for their DC characters, it’s easy to forget that after the release of Zack Snyder‘s Superman movie in 2013, that wasn’t the plan at all. In fact, “Justice League” wasn’t even on the radar, and the plan was to tell more stories with Clark Kent and co., with a “Man Of Steel” sequel fast tracked.

“In my mind, we have this fantastic character of Superman. It’s not madness that there would be [other superheroes],” Snyder said in 2013. “Now, that being said, does a ‘Justice League’ movie exist now? No. Whether or not I ever get to make that movie, I don’t know. What is real is that there’s a crack — a foot — in the door. That’s promising. The door is definitely open.”

Well, it went from a crack to the door being blown off its hinges, and just three years after that quote, Snyder is elbows deep in production on the first of a two-part “Justice League” movie. But as Jor-El aka Russell Crowe reminds us, at one time, there was going to be more of Henry Cavill saving the world, presumably before becoming a pariah.

“Originally — I could be completely wrong — I think there was a number of Superman movies. But I think they made the decision to jump past those and go to the idea of Batman and Superman in the same film,” he told Digital Spy (via ComicBookMovie).

For now, there are no standalone Superman movies planned, which is certainly a considerable gear shift from how WB and co. were first looking at things. But given that the entire DC universe seems to be getting another look right now, anything is possible.
