“Zootopia 2” is following a pattern that Disney has shown in recent years. Instead of original animated features —which are somewhat of a financial risk—the studio has been primarily invested in sequels to some of their biggest franchises. Which makes sense considering Inside Out 2 was the highest-grossing movie of 2024. But these animated features are not so easy to produce. Many of these productions take upwards of four to five years to put together. Voice actress Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Judy Hopps, the rabbit, has a clear timeline of this lengthy process thanks to her two children.
“I was pregnant with my first kid, who’s almost 11, when I started the first movie. I was pregnant with my second kid on the carpet of the first movie premiere. It’s been a long time.”
A long time indeed. But one certainly worth waiting on. Additional sequels Disney has in the pipeline include “Toy Story 5,” “Incredibles 3,” and two more “Frozen” movies.
