Apple TV+‘s “Presumed Innocent” has added another name on the call sheet for the second season of the streaming legal drama that is ramping up casting and filling out key roles. A casting update from Deadline reveals that Jack Reynor has joined “Superman” actress Rachel Brosnahan in the follow-up season, which is said to be based on the yet-to-be-released legal thriller “Dissection of A Murder,” the debut book from author Jo Murray.
Brosnahan, who is being credited as an executive producer on the new season, is set to play the role of lawyer Leila Reynolds as she is overseeing her first murder case, the death of a high-profile judge.
Hailing from J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Also, David E. Kelley serves as showrunner on the next season of “Presumed Innocent” alongside Erica Lipez (” The Morning Show”).
An official synopsis for the original from publisher Pan Macmillan:
When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her. To make things worse, he’s refusing to talk. How is she supposed to prove herself on what appears to be an unwinnable case? Losing is not an option. She must find the most persuasive argument. Trials aren’t won by convincing judges or fellow barristers – they’re all about convincing a jury. Suddenly, Leila finds herself fighting not only to keep Jack out of prison, but also to keep her own secrets buried. It’s true what they say – there are two sides to every story. Guilty or not guilty? You decide.
The Irish actor is known for roles like Ari Aster‘s Sweden-set thriller “Midsommer,” Kathryn Bigelow‘s “Detroit,” Ben Wheatley‘s satirical shootout flick “Free Fire,” “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” the Prime Video cyberpunk series “The Peripheral” based on the William Gibson novel, second season of “Citadel,” and most recently shot Lee Cronin‘s new version of “The Mummy” at Blumhouse/New Line Cinema.
The last season followed Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich as the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office suspects one of its own for a horrific murder (Harrison Ford had previously played the Sabich role in the 1990 movie).
