“The Cat in the Hat” already saw a fairly successful movie version hit the screen back in 2003 when Mike Myers donned prosthetics to play the main Dr. Seuss character in a live-action adaptation. “Fairly successful” is being kind. The film was a big bust for its time, both critically and commercially.
With the newer animated version expected to hit theaters early next year, producers are hoping it matches or even surpasses the success of 2018’s “The Grinch,” which grossed over $500 million worldwide. Warner Bros. Animation head Bill Damaschke is confident in the ‘Cat’s’ potential, recently describing it as the “doorway into our own Seussiverse.” Promising a cinematic universe ala Marvel or Star Wars are big promises for any movie executive or company. Damaschke additionally promised that the Dr. Seuss story this time around will be different:

“We all know the cat cheers up and brings joy to kids on rainy days. In our film, he will get his toughest assignment yet and have to up his game to keep that hat. It expands the story way beyond the book.”
February is a long time away. Hopefully, fans get a clearer idea of what exactly ‘beyond’ means in the coming months.
The movie stars Bill Hader, Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, and Paula Pell. Alessandro Carloni is at the helm as director. Carloni and Erica Rivinoja are co-writers. “The Cat in the Hat” is based on the book by Dr. Seuss. Executive producers are Susan Brandt and Hader. Producers are Daniela Mazzucato and Jared Stern.
“Cat in the Hat” follows the famous Dr. Seuss character as he brings a familiar brand of joy and mischief while helping a pair of siblings cope with moving to a new town. The Cat’s mischievous antics are on display as well as the children’s world of make-believe. The film explores the siblings’ emotional struggles and the Cat’s effect on their lives while staying true to the whimsical style of the original story.
