After British actress Emma Mackey exited the untitled comedy from director Nancy Meyers over scheduling issues, they’ve found quite the replacement for her in the form of recent Emmy-winner Erin Doherty from the Netflix drama series “Adolescence” as a case worker trying to gauge the mental fitness of a teenage boy, who was charged with brutally killing a female classmate.
News of Doherty’s participation comes from a casting update via Deadline, as the actress joins an already impressive lineup with actors Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, and Owen Wilson already tapped for key parts.

She had played Princess Anne in “The Crown” and was seen in Stephen Knight‘s period drama “A Thousand Blows,” which are other well-known TV projects that Erin Doherty has been a part of in recent years. The world of film is slightly new to Doherty, but she has appeared in Karim Aïnouz‘s royal drama “Firebrand” and the psychological thriller “Reawakening.”
Said to be a reworked version of Meyers’ “Paris Paramount” (former title), it is supposedly “about a filmmaker and producer who were once romantic and creative partners who reunite years after their breakup to make a new movie together, navigating their complicated relationship while dealing with volatile stars on their high-stakes production.”
This will be Meyers’ first feature effort since 2015’s “The Intern” and paired Anne Hathaway with Robert De Niro, so you can understand the excitement behind the project. Some of her other comedic efforts made over the years include “The Holiday,” “What Women Want,” and co-wrote the script for “Father of the Bride.”
