It may have been a bittersweet moment for Jennifer Garner watching “Argo” win Best Picture at the Oscars. Of course she was probably proud of her hubby, but it must be tough watching Ben Affleck receive accolades on accolades when her own career has been effectively praise-free since “Juno.” From “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” “Arthur,” and “Butter,” to her most recent “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” we were starting to question her taste. But she might finally have a hit on her hands, as Variety reports that she is in negotiations to star in Black List topper “Draft Day” with Kevin Costner.
The Black List distinction should at least mean that this has a solid shot at decency. The story follows Costner as the manager of the Buffalo Bills trying to secure the number one pick for his team on draft day. Garner would play his secretary. Ivan Reitman is set to direct.
In case you haven’t been keeping up, this marks a resurrection for the project, which was originally set up at Paramount and went into turnaround when their option ran out. The Black List announcement reignited interest and Summit then snatched it up. Just another testament to the Black List’s power, as this will have the potential to jump start the movie careers of relative unknown writers Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman (the former is a Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright). The talent attached seems a bit stuffy so far, but then again, maybe the casting will be perfect for a good old, apparently well-written football movie.
