Oscar Winner Alexandre Desplat To Compose The Score For Greta Gerwig's 'Little Women'

There are a few film composers working today that are able to sell a film just with their name alone. They’re composers that film fans know will turn in quality, beautiful music, even if the film is less than stellar. One of those names is Alexandre Desplat. And for the most part, he aligns himself with quality productions. Now, Desplat has aligned himself with Greta Gerwig, and we couldn’t be more excited.

In a new interview with Italian outlet Sentieri Selvaggi, the composer reveals that he has a number of projects on tap, including working with the Oscar-nominated director Gerwig on her second feature film, “Little Women,” which is expected to drop later this year. For those not familiar with the project, “Little Women” is based on the classic novel (which has been adapted for the screen numerous times) and stars Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Bob Odenkirk, and Chris Cooper. Not a bad line-up, whatsoever.

Desplat is a very prolific composer with an incredible number of high-profile projects under his belt. In addition to all of his work with filmmaker Wes Anderson, Desplat is also known for the films “The King’s Speech,” “Argo,” “The Imitation Game,” and “The Shape of Water.” All of those earned the composer an Oscar nomination. Overall, Desplat currently has 10 Oscar nominations in his career, with two wins (“The Shape of Water” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”).

“Little Women” is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day (aka December 25).
