Got a Tip?

Amy Adams To Star In TV Adaptation Of Gillian Flynn’s ‘Sharp Objects,’ Directed By Jean-Marc Vallée

Amy Adams Sharp ObjectsGillian Flynn has one home run, and one strikeout, when it comes to adaptations of her novels. The big success, of course, was David Fincher‘s "Gone Girl," and the author went on to work with the director on the since-aborted U.S. version of the U.K. cult series, "Utopia." The flop was the Charlize Theron starring "Dark Places," which was dismissed by critics and earned a measly $208,000 in limited release. Now, Flynn’s debut novel is gearing up for an adaptation, and it has attracted some huge talent.

Amy Adams will star in a television series based on "Sharp Objects," with Jean-Marc Vallée ("Dallas Buyer’s Club," "Wild") directing. Marti Noxon ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Fright Night") will pen the script for the story that follows a reporter who returns to her hometown to cover the killings of two young girls. Here’s the book synopsis:

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.

Adams is executive producing the project, which is currently being shopped around to networks and streaming services, and it will mark her first major TV gig (but, remember that time she dated Jim on "The Office"?). For Vallée, it’s another high profile small screen job following his upcoming "Big Little Lies" for HBO starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.
