Apparently, Anthony Mackie isn’t content with just being Captain America. The man also wants to rule the “Star Wars” universe, as well. Sorta, at least. You see, Mackie is a massive “Star Wars” fan, especially Boba Fett, and recently shared a story about how he desperately wanted to star in “The Mandalorian.”
In an interview on the Happy. Sad. Confused. podcast, Anthony Mackie talked about his fascination with Boba Fett and the Mandalorians in “Star Wars” lore. This led to him ringing up his team when he heard about Disney+ developing a series called “The Mandalorian.” Mackie was so ready to star in the show, he even talked about showing up to set with his helmet if needed.
“When I heard they were doing– this is the one and only time I call my agent, and my manager, and said, ‘It’s gonna be a problem,’ was when I heard they were doing ‘The Mandalorian,’” he explained. “[I said] ‘Come on. Come on. I am the best. I have the helmet. I can literally show up in my costume from my house, ready to shoot.’”
Unfortunately, it never came to be. In fact, Mackie didn’t even secure a meeting. The actor found out the schedule for “The Mandalorian” and realized it would conflict with other things he had planned. Basically, you can’t have it all. Sometimes you have to choose whether to be Captain America or a space outlaw. That said, Mackie is hoping for a cameo on “The Mandalorian” at some point.
“That’s real. I wasn’t available,” said Mackie. “Now, I’m trying to get one of those roles in the background, where they’re doing the thing, and I take off my helmet, and go, ‘That was a long flight.’ That’s it. That’s all I want is one scene. I just want everybody to know that I was one of them.”
As much as you have to expect Mackie is a bit bummed with not starring in “The Mandalorian,” he’s not without plenty of work. His new film, “We Have a Ghost,” is on Netflix now, and he also revealed that filming is set to begin on “Captain America: New World Order” in March. So, yeah, he’ll be just fine.
