Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme” has now grossed $28.2 million since Christmas Day. Even with $2.1 million in previews, that’s a super impressive tally for just 2,688 theaters. The A24 production has only opened in a few overseas markets, including the UK, but those figures are not available at press time. The Oscar contender cost a reported $70 million, but the mini-major sold off most international territories. Sources say it is ahead of internal domestic projections. With a slew of Oscar nominations expected, “Marty” will have a lot to hype in the weeks ahead beyond the promotional talents of Timothee Chalamet.

Also making waves was the Jack Black and Paul Rudd meta-comedy “Anaconda.” The Sony Pictures’ flick has taken in $23.6 million since Tuesday sneaks. Its worldwide tally now sits at $43.7 million. At a reported production budget of just $40 million, it looks like a nice double or triple down the line for the Culver City studio.

“Zootopia 2” continued its amazing holiday surge, landing in 2nd place for the weekend with another $20 million and $321 million domestic. It also became the only 2025 release to cross the $1 billion mark internationally. The Walt Disney Studios megahit has earned $1.4 billion worldwide so far, with a $1.6 billion plus tally likely.

Lionsgate’s “The Housemaid” continued its strong word-of-mouth run with another $15.4 million over the three-day period, down just 19% from its opening weekend. The Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney thriller has now taken in $46.4 million in just 10 days. With a reported $35 million production budget and international pre-sales, it should be one of the mini-majors’ most profitable films in years.

Christmas may be over, but the animated biblical epic “David” still pulled in the faithful with another $12.6 million over the frame. The Angel Studios acquisition has now earned $49.7 million in the U.S. and is the third-highest-grossing film in the studio’s history. It has a shot to pass no. 2, April’s “The King of Kings, over the next few weeks.

“The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants” came in seventh with $11.2 million and $38.1 million so far. The Paramount Pictures release opened in some overseas markets for another $22 million, bringing its global cume to $60 million. At a reported $64 million cost, the animated-live action hybrid may have a tough time breaking even theatrically.

Focus Features’ “Song Sung Blue” earned another $7.6 million over the three-day frame for a five-day total of $12 million in just 2,578 theaters. It opened overseas in some select markets, pushing its global tally to $12.4 million. With an A CinemaScore, the NBCUniversal division is expecting the older audience for this Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson crowd-pleaser to keep the good times rolling in the weeks ahead. At least, that’s what Focus is hoping for.

In limited release, Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” earned $312,687 in 13 theaters for a very good $24,00 per screen. It’s made $625,656 so far. Mana Fastvold’s “The Testament of Ann Lee” did an O.K. $17,750 on four screens for $111,100 so far.
