'Avengers: Endgame' Earns Record-Breaking $60 Million On Thursday Night; Smashes $305M In 2 Days Overseas

The records are already falling and “Avengers: Endgame” hasn’t even been in domestic theaters for a full 24 hours. Nevertheless, the latest MCU film appears to be poised to shatter its already massive expectations as the full rollout continues today.

Deadline is reporting that last night’s “previews” of ‘Endgame’ totaled an estimated $60 million, beating the previous Thursday night record of $57 million by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” And if you’re wondering how last year’s ‘Infinity War’ fared on its opening Thursday, that film pulled in a relatively small $39 million, which was the Marvel record.

$60 million means a variety of things for those predictions that have been dominating the minds of box office analysts for weeks now. If ‘Endgame’ keeps a similar drop as ‘The Force Awakens’ for today, then you could be looking at a brand-new record for first day sales, beating the ‘Star Wars’ film. In addition, if we’re talking a new Friday record (which would be at least $120 million), then suddenly that coveted $300 million mark doesn’t seem so far-fetched any longer.

As for the worldwide numbers, records are falling left and right, as the ‘Avengers’ film opens in more countries. It would be too difficult to name each and every territory, but it appears that ‘Endgame’ has beaten the first-day totals in every country it’s opened up in so far. Overall, in 48 hours overseas, the MCU film has totaled a ridiculous $305 million, including $216 million from China.

For perspective, ‘Infinity War’ only earned $190 million in China during its first three days at the box office. At this point, ‘Endgame’ has already shattered that number and will likely go much, much higher.

Adding the Thursday night previews domestically and the overseas number through two days, and you’re looking at a worldwide bow of $365 million…before the weekend. This number already makes ‘Endgame’ the #5 film of 2019 worldwide and it’s already eclipsed the entire worldwide box office total of WB’s “Shazam.”

It certainly seems as if $1 billion is in the cards this weekend, huh?
