'The Batman' Script By Ben Affleck & Geoff Johns Has Been Given A Rewrite

The saga of “The Batman” seems to have a new twist with each passing day. First, Ben Affleck vacated the director’s chair, and by time we woke up the next morning, a list of possible replacements had started coming together. And now, another detail has emerged about the developing movie.

In a report from Deadline earlier this week, it’s revealed that Chris Terrio did a rewrite of the script by Affleck and DC Films honcho Geoff Johns. While this would seem to confirm rumblings of script problems on the picture — especially given Affleck’s statement that he was still producing and starring in “The Batman,” but made no mention of the screenplay — it’s worth remembering that Terrio is a close creative ally of Affleck. He won an Oscar for his work on “Argo,” and was brought in on “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” at the same time Affleck signed up.

Whether or not this Affleck/Johns/Terrio script remains the final version, we’ll have to see, but I’d imagine whoever is brave enough to take on the challenge of helming this project — which is now arguably loaded with even more expectation — might want to give it a pass to line it up with their sensibilities. At any rate, the journey of “The Batman” is far from over.
