Ben Wheatley’s Action Thriller 'Free Fire' To Close BFI London Film Festival

For cinephiles, film festival announcements are about the fine print when big movie titles are announced. For example, this morning, organizers of the BFI London Film Festival revealed that Ben Wheatley‘s highly anticipated “Free Fire” would be the Closing Film at the event. However, the movie will be making its European Premiere at the fest, meaning that it’s going to have its World Premiere somewhere else first. Any guesses?

Starring Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Babou Ceesay, Enzo Cilenti, Sam Riley, Michael Smiley and Noah Taylor, the relentless action flick is set in Massachusetts in the late ‘70s, and follows Justine who has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen and a gang led by Vernon and Ord who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired in the handover, a heart stopping game of survival ensues.

A24 will release the film in the U.S., and while there’s already a trailer out there, it hasn’t made its way online just yet.
