‘Captain Marvel’ Honest Trailer: The Disappointing Meat In The ‘Infinity War’ Sandwich That Inspired So Much Hate

Over at Screen Junkies, folks like to poke fun at some of the biggest film releases every year with their Emmy-nominated Honest Trailers. Normally, these videos are for films that are either universally praised or panned, with fans ready to laugh along with the jokes. However, Screen Junkies had to know that they were walking into a minefield with their Honest Trailer for “Captain Marvel.”

Of all the movies released in 2019 so far, “Captain Marvel” is the one that has been the most heavily debated. Sadly, much of the debate has less to do with the content of the film and instead, focused either on the idea of a female superhero or the fact that Brie Larson is the star. We won’t bore you with a rehash of the argument, but needless to say, not very much of it is constructive and a majority of the toxicity is driven by sexist nonsense.

You’d figure with a set-up like that, Screen Junkies would go to town on the controversy surrounding “Captain Marvel,” knocking the trolls down a peg or two, in the process. Alas, the comedy writers decided to take the high road and focus on the actual film for their Honest Trailer. The nerve!

And as seen in the trailer, there’s plenty of faults to point out with “Captain Marvel.” From the Marvel trope of every superhero needing “a Black Friend” to Brie Larson’s, ummm, lack of emotion, the Honest Trailer tackles the actual issues of the film, with only one joke about the gender issue, showing that male-fronted superhero films vastly outnumber female-focused films by a ratio of more than 10:1.

So, before you get all riled up and ready to tweet angry thoughts about Brie Larson, trolls, or the future of superhero films, you should relax and just laugh along with the Screen Junkies and watch as they accurately skewer one of Marvel’s middle-of-the-road efforts.
