Chris Evans Raises A Genius In First Trailer For Marc Webb's 'Gifted'

After taking a detour into the high stakes world of blockbuster filmmaking with “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” director Marc Webb is back in indie territory with “Gifted.” And while the movie features a superhero actor in Chris Evans, the only powers on display come from a young girl with tremendous intelligence.

Featuring Octavia Spencer and Jenny Slate in supporting roles, “Gifted” tells the story a single man raising his niece, but their connection is threatened by her grandmother. Here’s the official synopsis:

Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) – in a coastal town in Florida. Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.

“Gifted” opens on April 12, 2017.
