Chris Hemsworth Says He Is Not Retiring As Thor After 'Love & Thunder'

An unwritten rule of the MCU has so far been that no character gets more than a trilogy. Out of the core Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor got a trilogy each. Spider-Man is two-thirds of a way to a trilogy, and the Hulk had a pseudo trilogy between “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Avengers: Endgame.” This makes “Thor: Love & Thunder” the first time a Marvel character gets a fourth movie, which is prompting questions of how much longer Chris Hemsworth will play the titular Thor now that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have hung up their metaphorical cape.

Thankfully, it seems Hemsworth is just as excited to continue playing the God of Thunder as we are to continue watching him play the character, which has made a phenomenal turn to comedic powerhouse after “Thor: Ragnarok.” Speaking with Polish outlet Elle Man, Hemsworth quickly addressed the question of retirement with a resounding no. “Are you crazy ?! I’m not going into any retirement period,” said the actor, who has played the role since 2011. “Thor is way too young for that. He is only 1500 years old! It is definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so.”

In the meantime, we still have “Love & Thunder” to look forward to. The highly anticipated sequel brings back “Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi, as well as Tessa Thompson‘s Valkyrie. The film will also bring back Natalie Portman‘s Jane Foster, who is heavily implied to become the next wielder of Thor’s powers.

Speaking of the film’s script, Hemsworth couldn’t reveal anything, unsurprisingly, but he did tease that “Reading the script I had a lot more fun than on ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ and that shows something, because this movie was brilliant.”
