Chris Pratt Defends His Church In Response To Ellen Page's Criticism

Just in time for week two of the underperforming “The Lego Movie 2: The Second One” release, Chris Pratt is on Instagram, responding to Ellen Page‘s critique of his church on LGBTQ issues. (As one does.) His Instagram story is a follow-up to her tweet from last week where she called his church “infamously anti lgbtq.” God bless Vulture, who captured the Story here before it disappeared, as is their nature.

Set against a background of a sheep (sheep are good in the Bible), Pratt proclaimed:

It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which “hates a certain group of people” and is “infamously anti-LGBTQ.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone. Despite what the Bible says about divorce my church community was there for me every step of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk. They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender….

Pratt is referencing his divorce from Anna Faris, which places him in violation of a number of Bible verses. It’s a valiant effort on behalf of the “Avengers: Endgame” actor, but it ignores that Evangelical churches are traditionally far more accepting of divorced and remarried people rather than their LGBTQ brethren. Pratt attends Zoe Church, a neighbor – both physically and doctrinally – of celeb fave Hillsong, which has also previously earned backlash for its conservative views despite its hip appearance.

Pratt concluded his Story with,”My faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life, and I am not a spokesman for any church or any group of people. My values define who I am. We need less hate in the world, not more. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man.”
