Claes Bang Joins The Cast Of Robert Eggers' Upcoming Viking Revenge Film 'The Northman'

Actor Claes Bang is busy prepping for the launch of his “Dracula” re-imagining coming to Netflix and BBC in 2020, but that doesn’t mean he’s not also getting other projects on his slate. And for film fans, even if “Dracula” turns out to be a huge hit and a great series, the most exciting thing on Bang’s schedule for the new year has to be “The Northman.”

According to Deadline, Bang is the latest actor to join the upcoming film “The Northman,” which is co-written and directed by Robert Eggers. The film, which Eggers is writing along with Icelandic poet Sjón, tells a Viking revenge story set in the 10th century in Iceland. And yes, we fully expect something weird and awesome from Eggers, as he’s two-for-two in his short filmmaking career with “The Lighthouse” and “The Witch.”

Bang is probably best known for his leading role in the Oscar-nominated film “The Square.” In addition to that role, the Danish actor has also appeared in the films “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” and “The Burnt Orange Heresy,” as well as on the TV series “The Affair.” Considering how Eggers has been in the Oscar conversation quite a bit with “The Lighthouse” this year, this could be another opportunity for Bang to show he’s one of the best actors working today.

The actor joins already-announced cast members such as Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Skarsgård in “The Northman.” Judging by this cast, Eggers is apparently ready to make “The Northman” the highest-profile film of his career, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what stylish, creative, wild tricks he has up his sleeve.

There’s no release date set for “The Northman,” but here’s hoping we get a late-2020 surprise from the filmmaker.
