While Steven Soderbergh tends to count A-list types like George Clooney, Matt Damon and Channing Tatum among his roster of regular players, he’s also known for making more leftfield choices from time to time. But if you had told us that the former star of “Grey’s Anatomy” would feature in a Soderbergh joint, we would have never believed you. But that’s happening.
Daniel Craig and Katherine Heigl are finalizing deals to join an oddball ensemble involving Tatum, Riley Keough, Adam Driver and Seth MacFarlane for “Logan Lucky.” The film will revolve around a pair of brothers who attempt to pull off a heist at a NASCAR race, and Soderbergh is going to include some authentic grit for his movie, with pre-production starting this weekend at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600. Filming will get underway this fall.
I can only surmise that Craig came recommended to Soderbergh from his bud David Fincher, who worked with the actor on “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” As for Heigl….maybe Soderbergh is a fan of medical dramas? Either way, I’m pretty eager to see what this motley crew pulls off. [Deadline]
