'Dark Shadows' Soundtrack Features Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, The Carpenters, T-Rex & More

nullComposer Danny Elfman has written the score to Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows," starring Johnny Depp, natch. It probably sounds a little like the music featured here (though you can actually hear it here). However, what's likely a bit more interesting than the original score, is the soundtrack to Burton's comedic '70s-set vampire tale based off a 1960s ABC soap opera about a family tormented by strange supernatural occurrences.

Due May 8th via WaterTower Music, the 11-track various artists soundtrack features Iggy Pop, The Moody Blues, The Carpenters, T-Rex, Alice Cooper and even Johnny Depp doing a spoken-word version of the Steve Miller Band's "The Joker." You can hear samples of the soundtrack over at the Water Town Music site and or just listen to the clips below. You're likely well-versed in most of these '70s songs, but might we recommend sitting through the lovely fromage that is the Carpenters' "Top Of The World"? The Moody Blues track is also a semi-undersung classic. Also, The Killers contribute a cover of the Raspberries tune "Go All The Way" that unfortunately is not included in the soundtrack release, but you can listen to it below.

"Dark Shadows" opens wide on May 11th and also features Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloë Grace Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter (natch) and newcomer Bella Heathcote. A few new photos from the film on page two as well.
