Dave Bautista Says 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' Is “On Hold Indefinitely"

As far as those on the side of Disney and Marvel, and those in support of fired “Guardians Of The Galaxy” filmmaker James Gunn go, actor Dave Bautista is very much on the site of “f— the [corporate] man.” Though the rest of the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” have all compiled an in-support statement, Bautista, who plays Drax in the ‘Guardians’ universe, remains the only member of the cast still rallying against this decision, openly deriding the farce Disney has created for themselves.

Earlier in August, reports trickled in that Marvel would delay production on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in the wake of Gunn’s firing. And during a very recent interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, when the subject came up, Bautista went on record to say that Disney and Marvel are “putting the movie off, it’s on hold indefinitely” (via CBM).

Bautista went on to praise Gunn further, highlighting that “I struggled, I starved for three years, I could barely get a job. There were a few people who believed in me along the way, but James was the one who really changed the course of my life” (via NME).

Much of Bautista’s support for Gunn has manifested in his outspoken criticism of Disney for their knee-jerk reaction to Gunn’s Twitter controversy. Through every moment, Bautista has openly criticized the studio for their quick removal of Gunn as well as for so easily folding to the outcry from alt-right Twitter troll Mike Cernovich and his minions. Though in his interview on Jonathan Ross, Bautista stated that he didn’t “want to make it a political conversation,” he has displayed refreshing candor on social media in his acknowledgement of the politics involved in Gunn’s firing, as this powder keg was set off by MAGA-Twitter’s descent on Gunn after seeing him criticize Donald Trump.

Even if he genuinely is not trying to steer the conversation towards politics anymore, the Drax actor is undoubtedly still poking the bear that is Disney and Marvel. On an additional appearance with Good Morning Britain, Bautista spoke candidly about Drax and the rest of the Guardians’ destiny after Thanos’ infamous universe-eradicating snap, even tempting fate by pushing the envelope of what Disney may consider a spoiler.

“We definitely see more Guardians in the upcoming Avengers, which we’ve already shot,” he said. “Oddly enough, I guess I wasn’t supposed to say anything, but I was already saying before Avengers 3 was released that I’d already filmed 4, and I was signed up for Guardians 3. I’ve shot scenes for it, so I must come back somehow,” Bautista continued, before stating “Nobody told me not to say anything.”

Whether or not Dave Bautista is speaking so freely about the upcoming films in Marvel’s slate to be fired from the ‘Guardians’ films uncertain, but upper management must be wondering what’ his end game is right now. Bautista does seem to be testing boundaries and already set a precedent with his sincerity, as well as threatening to quit if Marvel didn’t use Gunn’s original script for ‘Vol. 3.’All that can be said for sure is that this story is sure to get more complicated as ‘Avengers 4’ draws closer.

We’ll just have to wait and see what fate lies in store for the Drax and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy when ‘Avengers’ 4hits theaters in April 2019.
