'Death On The Nile' Trailer: Armie Hammer Is Expertly Edited Around In Kenneth Branagh's New Mystery

The last time we got a trailer for Kenneth Branagh’sDeath on the Nile” was in August 2020. Back then, the end of the pandemic was in sight (or so we thought) and the vaccine was going to fix everything. Also, ‘Nile’ actor Armie Hammer was still very much a bankable A-list star. And “Death on the Nile” was going to arrive in the fall. Oh boy, what a difference a year makes. Now, we’re almost hitting 2022, the pandemic is still very much going on, Armie Hammer is persona non grata in Hollywood, and “Death on the Nile” is arriving in February. For real, this time.

20th Century Studios has released a new trailer for “Death on the Nile,” confirming the winter release date. And just like the trailer last year, the new one is a star-studded affair with Branagh reprising his role as Hercule Poirot with a new mystery to solve. Perhaps the first mystery can be for Poirot to locate all the missing Armie Hammer footage? The new trailer is the most surgically precise edit of footage we’ve seen in a long time, carefully making sure the actor (who was accused of sexual misconduct earlier this year) is barely seen at all even though he is one of the most prominent characters in the story.

Interestingly, it appears Disney/20th Century Studios is sticking with a February 2022 release for “Death on the Nile.” This is in spite of the fact that most adult dramas, even with star-studded casts, have failed miserably at the box office (looking at you, “Nightmare Alley,” “West Side Story,” and “The Last Duel”).

20th Century Studios production president Steve Asbell explained why ‘Nile’ is getting a theatrical release and said, “Ken’s sweeping, elegant vision for this classic story deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible. We’re so proud of this film, our brilliant cast, and the stellar work that went into bringing ‘Death on the Nile’ to screen. We know that audiences can’t wait to experience Hercule Poirot’s next adventure, and we’re thrilled to continue working with Ken as he lends his masterful storytelling vision to the newest film in this celebrated franchise.”

“Death on the Nile” is set to hit theaters on February 11, 2022. You can watch the new trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:
