“Down Cemetery Road” is a new series coming to Apple TV+ that follows art restorer Sarah Tucker (Ruth Wilson) as she investigates the mysterious disappearance of a neighbor after an explosion. She’s joined by private investigator Zoë Boehm (Emma Thompson). It’s the second adaptation of a Mick Herron book series. Following “Slow Horses,” which sees its fifth season premiere on September 24. While both shows loosely fall under the detective thriller genre, “Down Cemetery Road” is more focused on the odd-couple pairing of its two main characters and the journey they undertake together. Ruth Wilson recently elaborated on this in an interview.
It’s a madcap odyssey…so I love the journey of it. That’s why it’s different from Slow Horses in a way. It’s a road movie and it’s an odyssey for these two characters, and through it, they’re finding things out about themselves as they go, so it’s very different. It is in the same world and the same humor and wit as Slow Horses, but actually, structurally, it’s pretty different.
With two great leads in Ruth Wilson and Emma Thompson, “Down Cemetery Road” looks to be a highly entertaining buddy comedy thriller.
The series stars Ruth Wilson, Emma Thompson, Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, Aiysha Hart, and Steven Cree. Directors are Samuel Donovan, Börkur Sigpórsson, and Natalie Bailey. Morwenna Banks is a writer. Executive producers are Mick Herron, Morwenna Banks, Emma Thompson, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash.
Based on the novel by Mick Herron, “Down Cemetery Road” is a British thriller drama series about a house explosion in a suburban neighborhood that leads a neighbor and a private investigator to uncover a conspiracy theory involving people believed to be dead and a military cover-up.
Synopsis:
When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbor Sarah Tucker (Wilson), an art restorer, becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson). Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.
“Down Cemetery Road” will be available on Apple TV+ starting October 29.
