Kevin Feige Says 'Avengers 4' Is Similar To 'Return Of The Jedi' And Will Have A 'Definitive Ending'

During the marketing for “Avengers: Infinity War,” Marvel Studios promised fans that they were in for an epic film that was the culmination of all the 20 or so films before it. While that was partly true, many fans left the film a little unhappy that there was no real ending. Of course, there was an ending to the film, but it wasn’t the ending that most people had in mind and it was far from a satisfactory conclusion to the MCU.

Enter “Avengers 4.”

According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, if you want a real ending to the massive saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’re in for a treat with the upcoming ‘Avengers’ sequel. In a recent Toronto Sun interview (actually from April, but flew under the radar until now), Feige talked about how “Avengers 4” is the true ending of the series and he compares the film to another franchise ending:

“But, storylines can come to an end. The best stories do come to an end. ‘Return of the Jedi’ was an ending for a long time and as a 10-year-old in 1983 that carried me through 30 years until there was a sequel. That hasn’t happened before in the superhero genre. A new actor comes in and a new storyline starts right away. We wanted to do it this way because we think that the best stories have a definitive ending to a storyline. That’s certainly what’s going to happen next year with ‘Avengers 4.’”

He continues by discussing by he felt like not doing the status quo ending was appropriate for the upcoming film:

“The Universe, the world, many of the characters we’ve introduced will continue onward in unexpected ways, some of which I don’t even know yet. But bringing a definitive conclusion at the 22-film mark, and just over 10 years, seemed like the right thing to do.”

Clearly, the MCU will live on post-“Avengers 4,” but it does appear that fans will finally get some closure surrounding some of their favorite characters. It just might not be the closure they were expecting.
