'Grease' Prequel 'Summer Loving' Will Stretch A 4-Minute Song Into A 2-Hour Movie

You know what’s a great film to revisit in 2019? The classic story of a macho boy trying to get in the pants of an innocent girl by faking like he cares about her and tricking her into liking him, all while he talks about screwing girls with his best friends. Oh, and it all ends happily ever after with the innocent girl taking up smoking, wearing revealing clothes, and becoming the ultimate sex object in the guy’s mind. Yep, we’re talking about “Grease.” And for some reason, Hollywood is now developing a prequel. Ugh.

THR is reporting that “Summer Loving,” the prequel to the 1978 film “Grease,” is now in development with writer John August attached to write. If you’re a fan of the original film, you can definitely guess by the title where the prequel will take place. “Summer Loving” is said to follow the story of how Sandy and Danny Zuko met during the previous summer and experienced a bit of a fling, with it ending when Sandy had to move back to Australia.

It appears that now we’ll have answers to the questions posed in the classic “Summer Nights” song from “Grease,” which details said meeting, such as “Did you get very far?” “Was it love at first sight?” and “Did she put up a fight?” (eesh)

And obviously, we’ll get to see actors not named Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta act out the classic scenes described in the song, like when the duo met while she was swimming by him and he saved her from nearly drowning.

We’re guessing the plot synopsis will go something like this:

“Took her bowling in the arcade
We went strolling drank lemonade
We made out under the dock
We stayed out till 10 o’clock”

Also, I’m sure fans will be aching for the inevitable love scene that was so lovingly described in the verse:

“He got friendly holding my hand
She got friendly down in the sand
He was sweet just turned eighteen
Well she was good you know what I mean”

Joking aside, the film is said to be written by John August, who is a frequent collaborator with Tim Burton, most recently on the Disney film “Dumbo.” He also is a writer on “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” coming out later this year.

No word on when “Summer Loving” is expected to come out. Let’s just hope someone thinks better of the situation and realizes absolutely no one needs this film. Otherwise, expect it in the summer of some year coming up.

Now, if you want to skip the film entirely, you can watch the clip from “Grease” where the characters tell the whole story:
