'Guava Island': Donald Glover To Premiere His Film Co-Starring Rihanna At Coachella & Streaming On YouTube This Weekend

Normally, we wouldn’t really care what happens at Coachella. As a film/TV site, very little in the way of relevant news debuts at the annual music festival. That being said, Coachella is always an interesting event, with tons of surprises. And 2019 is shaping up to be no different, with the music festival hosting a highly-anticipated film premiere, as Donald Glover is scheduled to debut his latest work, “Guava Island” at the event.

YouTube/Google announced today that the website will once again livestream the entire festival over the course of two weekends for its users. And in addition to fans from all around the world being able to avoid the heat and madness of the massive festival and just sit in the comfort of their home, enjoying the biggest musical artists playing the hits, it appears that viewers will also get a film treat as well, with the premiere of “Guava Island.”

Described as a “one-time premiere,” YouTube will stream “Guava Island” to its users. For those not familiar with the film, “Guava Island” is a project that has was filmed in secret, from the minds of Glover and director Hiro Murai. The film stars Glover, alongside Rihanna, Letitia Wright, and Nonso Anozie. There’s been very little word about the film, other than a trailer that was shown by Glover while performing as Childish Gambino at a 2018 concert.

Judging by the trailer that was leaked, “Guava Island” follows a man living in a Caribbean resort community, who is trying to make it as a musician but runs into trouble along the way. Rihanna appears to play Glover’s love interest in the film.

We aren’t 100% sure when the film will premiere other than during the first weekend of Coachella from April 12 to 14. We’re expecting that a more detailed schedule will be coming in the next few days.
