Paul Thomas Anderson& Haim Team For Short Film 'Valentine'

In between directing (and, apparently, shooting,) some of the most acclaimed and essential films of the twenty-first century, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson has been known as the director of an eclectic array of music videos, with my personal favorite being Joanna Newsom’s “Sapokanikan.” He’s made a habit of working with a few select musicians/bands, including Fiona Apple, Joanna Newsom, and Radiohead.

It seems as if Anderson has found a new musical muse. Back in April, we were treated to  “Right Now,” his first collaboration with the indie-rock, trio-of-sisters group HaimOn July 5, not four months later, Haim will be screening their second P.T.A. directed short, “Valentine,” in New York City, which features a full studio performance by the band.

Hopefully “Valentine” will be just the thing to hold everyone over until Anderson’s upcoming film, “Phantom Thread” — containing Daniel Day Lewis’s last film performance, if his retirement announcement is to be believed — is released later this year. Haim’s new record, Something To Tell You, arrives on Friday. [Pitchfork]
