Well, folks, we might as well face it… There is going to be a “Hot Wheels” movie. We’ve already had “Transformers,” “Battleship,” and there’s the upcoming “Lego” movie, so it really should not come as a surprise to anyone at this point that another toy is headed to the big screen. Legendary Pictures already has a finished script for the project and now they are looking a director that will be brave enough to take on such challenging material.
THR reports that there are currently two directors circling the gig, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) and second-unit director/veteran Simon Crane. This would be Crane’s debut as a director, but the man has worked on almost two dozen films as second-unit director. His most recent efforts include “World War Z,” “Men in Black 3,” and the upcoming Doug Liman film “All You Need Is Kill.” It certainly would be interesting to see what either filmmaker could do with this “Hot Wheels” film, though we’re sure most people are wondering what a “Hot Wheels” movie would even entail. The script was penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (“Punisher: War Zone”) and apparently the tone is expected to be “more Mission: Impossible than Fast & Furious.” That’s all we know about the project so far.
Production is set to begin on the film early next year, so start getting those collectibles ready for eBay.
